History

SonRise Lutheran Camp and Retreat Center opened in 1960 as Camp of the Pines, Inc on Lake Champlain.  It was owned and operated by the Lutheran Laymen's League.  In the mid 1960s Camp of the Pines moved to its current location in Pottersville, NY on Schroon Lakes.  In the 1970s a tornado devestated the property of then Camp of the Pines by removing all the pine trees in what is now commonly reffered to as "big field."  After sitting unused for a summer the camp re-opened as Camp SonRise.   In the 1980s ownership of Camp of the Pines, dba, SonRise Lutheran Ministries transfered from the Lutheran Laymen's League to the Atlantic District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

Over the years Camp of the Pines/SonRise Lutheran Camp and Retreat Center has gone from a summer camp facilty on Lake Champlain to a year-round camp and retreat center on Schroon Lake.  Thousands of people have been a part of the history and thousands more will be a part of the furture.  We invite you to be a part of that future.  SonRise has year round programs for youth and adults of all ages.  We also have facilities available for youth retreats and congregational retreats.

Our desire is to partner with local churches in providing quality programs and retreats in order to empower the body of Christ by helping equip and educate people for the Kingdom of God.
